The Opal Eye 3"
The Object A rare and technically demanding piece from Kevin O'Grady's studio, this signature Vortex marble features a suspended Floating Opal at its heart.
The architecture of this sphere is built around contrast. The walls are a chaotic storm of dichroic currents, swirls of electric blue, violet, and gold that crash against each other like waves in a nebula. Yet, floating perfectly suspended within this visual storm is a single, serene opal sphere.
This "planet within a planet" technique is notoriously difficult to execute without cracking the glass or burning the opal. The result is a mesmerizing focal point: a pale, ghostly moon orbiting silently inside a violent, beautiful galaxy of glass.
The Artist Kevin O'Grady (Roswell, NM) is widely recognized as the "Father of the Vortex." Since 1993, he has pushed the boundaries of the medium, developing proprietary techniques to create marbles with "impossible" depth. His work is held in major museum collections and is prized for its clean optical termination and heavy use of precious metals.
