The Ethereal Current 2"
The Object Seen in full rotation, this Kevin O'Grady Vortex reveals itself as a collision of elements: earth, electricity, and vapor.
The front face is defined by a "neuron-like" webbing of teal dichroic glass that crackles with electric energy. This jagged texture crashes into solid ribs of molten gold and orange that plunge deep into the vortex mouth.
However, the defining feature of this piece—revealed only in rotation—is the sweeping current of ghostly white and lavender vapor that wraps around the sphere's hemisphere. These soft, smoky ribbons act as a perfect counterweight to the sharp metallic dichroic glass, creating a sense of "sea foam" or "nebular gas" flowing over a solid structure. The optical depth is endless, with the gold ribs guiding the eye down into a pitch-black singularity.
The Artist Kevin O'Grady (Roswell, NM) is widely recognized as the "Father of the Vortex." Since 1993, he has pushed the boundaries of the medium, developing proprietary techniques to create marbles with "impossible" depth. His work is held in major museum collections and is prized for its clean optical termination and heavy use of precious metals.
