Pink Lace 1-1/4"
The Object "Pink Lace" is a masterclass in texture control and soft contrast. Like its counterpart in the collection, this solid borosilicate sphere features Hollingshead's signature "lace" technique, where white glass is manipulated to create a ruffled, scalloped edge that mimics fine fabric. These delicate white tiers act as a chalice, cradling a vibrant, multi-layered center of neon pink and solar orange stamens. The optical clarity of the glass magnifies these ruffles, making the rigid material appear as soft as silk. Under ultraviolet light, the piece reveals a secondary personality, glowing with a vivid electric pink fluorescence that outlines the complex internal structure.
The Artist Richard Hollingshead (Albuquerque, NM) is a celebrated figure in the American borosilicate movement. Working from his studio in the Southwest, he has developed a reputation for architectural precision and complex, layered patterning. While he is capable of creating delicate hollow vessels, he is equally renowned for his solid works, including intricate implosions and multi-layered cane designs. His style is defined by a rigorous control of line and color; whether working solid or hollow, Hollingshead adapts classic Italian techniques like millefiori and zanfirico into modern hard glass, creating objects that are visually dense yet perfectly balanced.
