Orange Lace 1-1/4"

Sale price$350.00

The Object This solid borosilicate sphere is a study in dualities. In natural light, it captures a hyper-realistic organic bloom rising from a spiraling oxblood and copper base. The complex, multi-tiered flower features delicate petals of soft magenta and custard yellow, encased in a flawlessly clear dome. However, under ultraviolet light, the piece reveals a hidden dimension: the intricate cane work ignites with a vivid, electric green fluorescence. This reactive quality transforms the organic garden into a neon structure, allowing the piece to command presence in daylight and completely reinvent itself in a darkened gallery setting.

The Artist Richard Hollingshead (Albuquerque, NM) is a celebrated figure in the American borosilicate movement. Working from his studio in the Southwest, he has developed a reputation for architectural precision and complex, layered patterning. While he is capable of creating delicate hollow vessels, he is equally renowned for his solid works, including intricate implosions and multi-layered cane designs. His style is defined by a rigorous control of line and color; whether working solid or hollow, Hollingshead adapts classic Italian techniques like millefiori and zanfirico into modern hard glass, creating objects that are visually dense yet perfectly balanced.
